Behind GaleoSelect

It started with a camera.And a lot of curiosity.

I’m Raynel Lopez, a photographer with a background in computer science and a love of filmmaking. GaleoSelect is where those parts of my life come together.

The beginning

Video, photography, and the pull of making something.

Before there was an app.

Around 2004 or 2005, I got my first camera. I made up stories and filmed them with my sisters at home. Later, I recorded videos on my phone at school and uploaded them to YouTube. One discovery led to another: video editing, Photoshop, and then computers.

That curiosity took me through a computer science degree, then back to college to study cinematography. Over time, photography became part of my work, alongside short films and sketches.

What I’ve always enjoyed is putting care into something and seeing someone else use it, enjoy it, or find it helpful. That feeling is a big part of why I keep making things.

Why GaleoSelect

When I started delivering galleries, the tool I found looked dated, but it worked. Its interface was in English. I could use it, but some of my Spanish-speaking clients found it confusing. Sharing the work could have felt much simpler.

My first idea was a way for people to find photographers nearby. As I started building, I focused on a need in my own work: a better way to share a shoot. That became GaleoSelect.

I wanted the care that went into making the photographs to carry through to the person receiving them. The language, the interface, and the small details all matter.

What I’m working toward

A better experience, on both sides.

My ambition is for GaleoSelect to become a new standard for sharing creative work. Someone with their first camera should feel welcome here, and an experienced photographer should find a workspace that fits their day.

The person opening the gallery matters just as much. Whether they’re a client, a guest, or someone you want to share with, the experience should feel easy and thoughtfully made.

Simple. Fast. Clean. Modern. Reliable.

Looking ahead

More time for your own work.

I see AI as a way to give photographers time back while keeping their taste, decisions, and editing style their own. There’s a lot of useful work it could help with around a shoot.

AI-assisted editing, retouching, and preparing work for social media are directions I’d like to explore. Photography is the focus today, with support for video continuing to develop.

I’m building GaleoSelect on my own, alongside my job and family life. I bring together my computer science background, tutorials, and AI-assisted tools to keep learning and turn ideas into something people can use.

I don’t know exactly where GaleoSelect will be in five years. I do know I want to keep making it better. If there’s something that would make your work easier, I’d like to hear it.
